Wainscot Stair Installation Tips

Seeing as how stairs cases vary in angles, and how some staircases sag in the middle,  stiles must be cut on site one at a time. All Wainscoting Staircase Kits are shipped with the stiles uncut.  The kits come 16 feet long, are the same price as either the 36" or 42" kits and will match up with either one of them.

We also offer a solution for curved spiral stair cases.

The router bit to cut the stiles, does not need to be an exact match.  Many carpenters have similar bits in their tool box, and simply fill in the rest.  However, the closer the match, less filling will be required. A close match is OG bit #99 006 found at Freud Woodworkers , follow link to the "ogee" bit or just take a stile in to your local hardware store and ask them to match it. Tip.

As in installing a flat wall, start by installing all the bottom rail   just as you would a baseboard.

Tip: How to Cut Edges on Stiles

If your router is not fast enough or if your bit is not sharp enough...you'll find that the MDF will pucker at the end.  This is a common occurrence. The puckering or flaring out of the ends of the stiles will result in a gap between the stile and the existing wall board.  This can be sanded down or, simply adjust the depth on your your chop saw and pre-cut as shown.
